Travelling to Royal Holloway, University of London
The address is Royal Holloway, University of London, Egham, TW20 0EX.
The nearest airport is London Heathrow (LHR). Note that all other five airports of London are relatively far away from the venue. Hence, we strongly recommend booking a flight to LHR.
From LHR, there is a direct bus connection to Royal Holloway: Line 8 to Slough (operated by First Bus Berkshire) departs every 30 minutes from Terminal 5's bus station. If you arrive at one of LHR's other terminals, you can use London Underground trains for free to get to Terminal 5 (you still need a free ticket from a ticket machine or tap in and out using the same contactless credit card). Note that the bus service does not operate in the evening - the last departure from T5 is 19.20. The bus takes approximately 45 minutes. You can buy your ticket when boarding the bus (card payment or cash). Alternatively, you can use a Taxi, which takes approximately 15-20 minutes.
If you travel via any other transport hub in London, take the train from London Waterloo (or Clapham Junction) to Egham station. There are four trains per hour. Note that you cannot use your credit card (or Oyster card) as a ticket. You can buy a (paper) ticket at any national rail station (not available at London Underground stations). Train services do not operate during the night (last train at 23.50 from London Waterloo, first train at 5.35, Clapham Junction 10 min later). The train takes approximately 40 minutes from London Waterloo to Egham station. From Egham station, there are several bus services to Royal Holloway during daytime (including an evening service). Alternatively, you can walk (20 minutes, uphill). If you decide to walk late at night, you need to walk along street A30 and not follow the signposts to campus as the back gate will be closed during the night. A taxi needs approximately 5 minutes from the station to Royal Holloway.
If you travel by car, you can park in one of the many car parks of the college. Note that Royal Holloway operates an automatic parking enforcement system and you need to register your car in advance.
There are no Covid restrictions in the UK.
Accommodation
Recommended: Royal Holloway offers accommodation in modern student dormitories (single and double rooms). All of these rooms are located on campus close to our conference venue. Out-of-hours check-in is possible throughout the night, but we kindly ask you to plan to arrive during office hours. Booking will open together with the ticket registration.
A Historic and Pictoresque Campus
The workshop takes place at Royal Holloway, University of London. The campus is located at the gates of London within 135 acres of beautiful parkland. The historic Founder's building has been opened by Queen Victoria herself in 1886. Sources suggest that she was quite amused when she attended the ceremony.
The scenic campus and the impressive main building has also been a recurring setting for many film and television productions, such as the "Avengers" and the current Netflix series "You".
The "Royal" Experience
For our main conference banquet, we will escape our fast-running daily routine and get together in Royal Holloways stunning picture gallery. We will wine and dine right beneath world-class Victorian paintings - a unique experience!
Modern Meets Historic
Our conference building symbolises our work to develop and use modern technology in a historically grown environment. The Shilling building is embedded in the historic campus as a futuristic beacon of progress.
